FAFSA
Background
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the primary means by which Dallas ISD high school students apply for financial aid to pay for a college education. The Federal Student Aid office of the U.S. Department of Education processes FAFSA applications, which include financial information on applicants' families, to determine eligibility for need-based financial assistance, such as the Pell Grant. Data from the Department of Education classifies students' FAFSA status by the following categories:
0 - No FAFSA record found.
1 - FAFSA submitted but not processed due to missing signature(s).
2 - FAFSA processed and an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated.
The EFC is a measure of the financial strength of a student?s family.
Colleges and universities use the EFC to determine student eligibility for financial aid.
3 - FAFSA processed but no EFC calculated.
A category of "2" indicates a completed and processed FAFSA, while categories "1" and "3" refer to incomplete FAFSAs.
