Frequently Asked Questions
The frequently asked questions (FAQs) below were not directly addressed elsewhere in these help pages. Questions about topics already in the menu at the left are addressed on the appropriate page.
Why can't I change my user name?
Users' employee ID numbers are used to generate user names on MyData Portal because most accounts are generated automatically. District databases also keep track of staff changes. For example, when a teacher transfers between schools, the teacher's account must be deleted from one school and added to the other.
In addition, using your employee ID number means you have one less piece of information to remember.

Can I use the same password for MyData Portal and other systems (like GroupWise)?
The password you choose is completely up to you. Many people use the same password on different systems so they don't have to remember multiples passwords.
However, keep in mind that each system is independent from each other. So, changing your MyData Portal password will not change it in the other systems and vice-versa.
Can I share student data with a tutor that doesn't have a MyData Portal account?
You can share a student's data with anyone that has a legitimate, educational reason to view such data. A tutor providing assistance to a set of your students fits that definition. However, make sure you provide data only on students that the tutor serves. Whenever in doubt, consult your principal or campus account manager.

What should I do if I notice that a student's data are wrong?
CRCs or data controllers input most student data at your campus. They must make corrections to the student database must be made at the campus level (e.g., ethnicity, gender, limited English proficiency status, date of birth, and so forth).
I have suggestions to improve MyData Portal. Who should I talk to?
Contact the Office of Institutional Research (OIR), whose staff are responsible for maintaining MyData Portal. Send an e‑mail message to OIR@dallasisd.org explaining what your suggestion or recommendation is.
MyData Portal is a complex site, and we cannot act on every suggestion we receive. Understandably, a modification requiring simple programming that would improve the site significantly is more likely to be implemented than one requiring complex, laborious programming with marginal improvement. However, we do take all suggestions into consideration.

Why does it take longer to see my data one day than the next?
During certain times of the year (e.g., when Benchmark or TAKS results are released), many users may be downloading their data at the same time. The system slows down because it can move only so much data through its lines. It's much like city traffic. The more cars are moving down a busy street, the slower the traffic gets.
